Golf began in England in 1603 when James VI of Scotland moved court to London, taking up residence at the Royal Palace in Greenwich, becoming James I of England. In 1608 Blackheath Golf Club was instituted and opened for golf in 1864 and remains the oldest course in England still playing along its original fairways.Today there are some 1,900 or so golf clubs in England resulting in there being more courses in England than Ireland, Scotland and Wales put together.The England Top 100 rankings was last updated in November 2019.
